What Makes Us Unique
We believe
that the Greater Stamford Toastmasters club offers opportunities
not found in most other Toastmaster clubs, including:
Size
According to the District 53 folks, as of March, 2004 we are the largest
public club in Connecticut! (Club Stats) Additionally, we
are one of the 25 largest clubs in the world! Our size allows for a large diversity
in speakers, resulting in a wider range of feedback for member speeches.
Frequency
In addition to being one of the largest clubs in the world, we are the only club
in Connecticut which meets every week
, with holiday weeks being the major exceptions. We also have regular meetings the first Wednesday of every month (except Summer) and other "special events" planned on the third Wednesday of most months. Members with busy work schedules have the flexibility to pick and choose the meeting dates that best fit their schedule.
Technology
In keeping with the high tech nature of Stamford itself, the
club offers a host of technological tools, ranging from video camera to digital sound recordings
to fully electronic member records. We even have galvanic skin response sensors that can indicate how nervous you were while giving a speech!
Although we may not have all these gadgets at the present time, we are looking to acquire them in the not-too-distant future.
Educational
Resources
Stamford offers a host of educational resources, such as acting
classes held at the Stamford campus of the University of Connecticut.
Other educational opportunities close by include the Norwalk
Community College or even NYU and Columbia in Manhattan -

Club
Management
The scheduling operations of the club are supported by Yahoo
Groups, allowing members to be notified via automatic
emails of upcoming meetings - including indications of who is speaking and what roles have been filled.
Yahoo Groups also allows our members to receive email at their preferred level:
individual messages, daily digests, special notices or no email at all.
They are also are responsible for creating, scheduling and promoting the unique
special events of the club. These functions
are administered by the current Executive Committee (Officers) of the club.
