Glossary

Every specialized organization has their own group of words and designations. Here are few terms that are very specific to Toastmasters.

 
Toastmasters Member Designations

Club Designations
 

CC

Competent Communicator

When a member of Toastmasters completes all ten project speeches in the Competent Communication manual, s/he is awarded the designation Competent Communicator and may put "CC" after his/her name when conducting Toastmasters business.

Each of the ten speech projects focuses on one of the basic skills of making a presentation and builds upon skills learned previously.

ACB

Advanced Communicator - Bronze

After completing the ten speech projects to become a Competent Communicator, a Toastmasters member can continue in the communication track to further develop his/her speaking skills. To proceed in the communication track, the new "CC" member selects two of the fifteen Advanced Manuals currently available. When the member completes all speeches in both manuals (each advanced manual contains five speaking assignments), s/he earns the Advanced Communicator Bronze (ACB) recognition. 

ACS

Advanced Communicator - Silver

When an "ACB" member completes two more of the 15 Advanced Manuals, and also presents two modules from the Successful Club or Better Speaker Series, they earn Advanced Communicator Silver.

ACG 

Advanced Communicator - Gold

When an "ACS" member completes two more of the 15 advanced manuals, presents an additional two modules from the Successful Club Series or Better Speaker Series, and coaches a new member through the first three speeches, the member earns Advanced Communicator Gold.

Leadership Track

CL

Competent Leader

A toastmasters member who completes all ten projects in the Competent Leadership manual is awarded the Competent Leader designation. The requirements of this manual are varied; members must serve in all the various meeting roles at least once; serve at least six months as a Club Officer, attend District-sponsored Club Officer training, participate with the other members of the Club's Executive Team to produce the Club Success Plan; and organize a club membership drive or contest.

ALB

Advanced Leader Bronze

To earn this designation, a Toastmaster must have earned the CL Award, and must also serve as an officer at the Area, Division, or District level; and serve successfully as a Sponsor or Mentor for a new or rebuilding Club.

ALS

Advanced Leader Silver

To earn this designation, a Toastmaster must have earned the ALB Award, and must also: serve as a District Officer; complete the High Performance Leadership Program (a self-paced hands-on program which develops project management skills); and serve successfully as a Sponsor or Mentor for a new or rebuilding Club.

DTM

Distinguished Toastmaster

This is the highest recognition available in the Toastmasters program. When a member has completed the Communication track and earned the Advanced Communicator Gold and has completed the Leadership track and earned the Advanced Leader Silver, the member is awarded DTM recognition. DCP

Distinguished Club Program

The Distinguished Club Program is a system that Toastmasters International uses monitor and measure a club’s achievements in these two critical areas: educational awards (CCs, ACBs, CLs, etc.) and membership. BDCP

Best Darn Club on the Planet

The designation being worked towards every week at the Greater Stamford Toastmasters. Coined by our 2003 Club President, James Jorasch, "The Best Darn Club on the Planet" not only represents the club’s motto, but also embodies the goals the club strives for at every meeting!

TI (or TMI)

Toastmasters International

This is the most common abbreviation for our parent organization, Toastmasters International. Learn more about TI at their web site, www.toastmasters.org .
