Culture

Every Toastmaster club has its own unique character, and the Greater Stamford Toastmasters is no exception. Over the years it has developed a personality all its own, mirroring the hundreds of members that have shaped it along the way. Here are some of core elements of our club:

Diversity: One of the advantages of being based in Stamford is the wide range of people participating in the club. The city has 100,000 residents, and is home to a large number of multinational companies which attract employees from around the globe. Our members include college students, consultants, entrepreneurs, teachers, lawyers, retirees, nurses, sales people, engineers, and so much more. Rich and poor, tall and short, shy and outgoing - the Stamford Chapter has them all!

Self-improvement: The club is dedicated to improving public speaking abilities and has developed a number of innovative programs to educate and inform members, including mentor programs, special events, video-based feedback sessions, and much more.

Competitiveness: The Stamford Chapter has a long history of success in statewide competitions, sending more members to the district finals than any other club in Connecticut. We strongly support members who want to push their speaking skills to the limit by facing other clubs in competition. Click here to learn more about speech competitions.

Community Involvement: The Stamford Chapter sees itself as an integral part of the local community and has worked with community leaders in teaching high school students the art of public speaking. Our club tries to schedule various educational events for the general public on a quarterly basis. We encourage members to use the skills they have learned at Toastmasters to give something back to the community.

Innovation: Another key is our commitment to innovation. We don't slavishly adhere to the standard programs provided by Toastmasters International. We are constantly brainstorming new ideas and looking for new ways to help our members. Got some fresh ideas? Contact us with your suggestions!
